Rave Subculture
The rave subculture is just one big party. We showed examples in class like the Electric Daisy Carnival. Are there big festivals for other subcultures? Do any other subcultures mix both childish aspects (toys, lights, etc.) and adult aspects (drugs, etc.)? Why is "childish" a common theme through many subcultures?

While the rave subculture has the Electric Daisy Carnival, music based subcultures have concerts and tours, anime has conventions, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut the reason that I think the childish factor comes in to play is the fact that people want to resist mainstream standards. By acting like a kid, you rebel against everything that society expects from you. Moreover, by participating in a subculture you actually get a chance to enjoy yourself. There are no essentially no responsibilities, and to the outside world this may come off as indeed childish.
